The first thousands of pieces of 155 mm ammunition have rolled off the production lines of MESKO S.A. The company aims to produce 150 thousand shells per year.
MESKO S.A. is implementing a strategic investment in Kraśnik, the purpose of which is to increase the company's production capacity to 150 thousand units per year of key 155 mm artillery ammunition. This is a response to the intensification of military equipment orders from the Polish Armed Forces and the need to build Poland's industrial sovereignty in the defense sector.
MESKO S.A., together with the companies within the MESKO Capital Group, is currently the only entity in Poland producing 155 mm ammunition. Production of the ammunition shells takes place at the Kraśnik plant. The company is expanding its competences in this area.
- The investment in the Kraśnik plant is a milestone in MESKO's development and a response to the growing needs of the Polish Armed Forces. We are increasing our capacity to deliver ammunition crucial to Poland's security and strengthening the country's defense at a critical time for Europe and NATO - emphasizes Renata Gruszczyńska, Chairman of the Board of MESKO S.A.
- Kraśnik is already crucial production site for 155 mm ammunition shells. I want to emphasize that we are not starting from scratch, clearing forests for investment, but rather developing our current technological and production potential to be the only company in Poland to increase existing and ongoing production. Equally important, we manufacture the critical components of the entire process ourselves. We do not assemble already made parts purchased abroad. In parallel, we are working intensively on acquiring the capacity to produce modular charges for 155 mm ammunition at the Pionki branch. Once this goal is achieved, charges will be manufactured in Poland. We are developing a business plan for this purpose and seeking funding - emphasizes Renata Gruszczyńska, Chairman of the Board of MESKO S.A.
She adds that the modern production lines and machinery purchased for the Kraśnik factory will enable increased automation and efficiency, improved working conditions, and a systematic increase in employment in the Lublin region.
A SUDDEN INCREASE IN PRODUCTION
MESKO S.A. is systematically implementing investments related to increasing the production capacity of 155 mm ammunition at its factory in Kraśnik. Recently, the hot forming, machining, and heat treatment equipment were modernized, and modern lathes and weld overlay machines, as well as lifting equipment and control and measurement equipment, were purchased. Furthermore, renovations were carried out on the weld overlay machine rooms and part of the press shop production hall.
In the second half of 2024, significant intensification of efforts was made to increase the company's production capacity in the 155 mm caliber area. Using its own funds, MESKO S.A. acquired a property complex consisting of three plots with a total area of approximately 1.53 hectares from the Rolling Bearing Factory in Kraśnik. The acquired properties contain the necessary industrial infrastructure. The company also purchased a plot of over 1 hectare for warehouse space from the municipality of Kraśnik. Agreements for the purchase of additional equipment have also been concluded.
Building on this established capacity – using funding from the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of State Assets through the Capital Investment Fund – MESKO S.A. is implementing a project to rapidly increase production capacity for 155 mm shells to 150 thousand units per year.
Work is progressing rapidly. Later this year the company will begin expanding its production hall to approximately 8,000 square meters. The project also includes modernizing existing facilities. The investment is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2027.
INVESTMENT CRUCIAL TO SECURITY
- The investment in Kraśnik not only increases our company's production capacity but also significantly strengthens the entire national defense industry. We are building technological and production independence in the field of strategic ammunition for the Polish Army, which, in the current geopolitical environment, is crucial for national security. This project is part of a broader strategy to Polonize the supply chain and build production capacity "from start to finish" in Poland - emphasizes Krzysztof Marwicki, Member of the Board of MESKO S.A.
- Thanks to this investment, MESKO is becoming the foundation of Poland's ability to conduct long-lasting artillery operations. Weapons such as the Krab gun-howitzer or K9 Thunder require a constant and large volume of ammunition supplies, and our actions will ensure their continuous delivery, without the need to rely on external suppliers. This is a concrete response to the needs of the modernizing army and a crucial step towards ensuring its highest level of combat readiness - emphasizes Marcin Ożóg, Member of the Board of MESKO S.A.
