MESKO S.A. has increased its production capacity of small-caliber ammunition five-fold.
MESKO S.A., a company belonging to the PGZ, has completed crucial stage of one of the largest investments in the history of the Polish defense industry. On Friday, June 13th, a modern small-caliber ammunition production hall was officially opened at the company premises in Skarżysko-Kamienna, increasing the company's production capacity five-fold – from 50 to 250 million rounds per year. This project is consistent with the strategy of strengthening Poland's security by building a sovereign supply chain. The event was attended by Prime Minister Donald Tusk and numerous representatives of government institutions, the military, local governments and members of parliament from the Świętokrzyskie region.
- The construction of the new small-caliber ammunition production hall is a turning point in the development of MESKO S.A.'s production capacity in this product category. This investment not only increases our production capacity five-fold but also introduces a new quality standard resulting from the combination of over a century of experience of the company with the most modern technological solutions currently available in the defense industry. Fully automated processes and consistently built raw materials independence allow us to effectively fulfill our obligations to the Polish Armed Forces and international partners - emphasizes Renata Gruszczyńska, Chairman of the Board of MESKO S.A.
A QUARTER OF A BILLION PIECES OF AMMUNITION PER YEAR
The modern facility, with an area of over 4,000 square meters was equipped with four fully automated production lines that run the complete technological cycle associated with the assembly of individual ammunition components – from cartridge cases, through primers and bullets, to propellant charge. The components and high-energy materials come mostly from Polish producers, including the MESKO S.A.’s branch in Pionki, allowing the company to gradually become less dependent on foreign suppliers.
As a result, the company's production capacity has increased five-fold – from 50 to 250 million rounds of small-caliber ammunition per year. Thanks to this investment, MESKO S.A. will be able to produce one million rounds of ammunition per business day.
- Expanding production to a quarter of a billion rounds of ammunition annually is a significant contribution to strengthening Poland's national security system. At the same time, with regard to the implementation of this investment project, the Company has completely new perspectives for expansion on foreign markets - says Renata Gruszczyńska, Chairman of the Board of MESKO S.A.
QUALITY AND SAFETY
With the 500 percent increase in production capacity, product quality has also improved. Currently, quality control is performed by specialized machines. Process automation eliminates the possibility of even the slightest deviations from the technical specifications for manufactured ammunition.
Equally important are occupational safety and health issues. In the new production hall, propellant is fed to the machine fully automated, without human intervention. Computer systems are also responsible for the inter-operational transport of components between machines on the production line. All this enhances safety and improves work ergonomics.
- The new production hall is designed based on the highest standards of industrial engineering. The technological solutions applied, place our investment among the most modern facilities of its kind in Europe. Automation of the production process, automated quality control, safe propellant measurement, and inter-operational transport of components significantly improve work safety, process repeatability and efficiency. Such an advanced project would not have been possible without the enormous commitment of our employees – specialists, engineers, and technicians. I would like to sincerely thank them for their professionalism and contribution to the development of our company and the entire PGZ – mentions Krzysztof Marwicki, Member of the Board of MESKO S.A.
TOWARDS COMPLETION OF THE "PROJECT 400"
The completed investment is part of a larger project related to the development of MESKO S.A., called "Project 400," with a total value of PLN 466.7 million – PLN 400 million of which comes from the Reprivatization Fund and PLN 66.7 million from the company's own contribution. The scope of the investment includes over 1,100 machines and equipment and over 20 facilities located in Skarżysko-Kamienna and Pionki. The total area of the new and modernized facilities is over 18,400 square meters.
The investment's significant impact is also visible in the economic environment. MESKO S.A. has signed agreements for the implementation of "Project 400" with 99 companies, 88 of which are Polish entities. For many of them, cooperation on the project has stimulated the development of new competencies and the expansion of their commercial offer. The remaining partners come from nine countries: Germany, Austria, Italy, the Czech Republic, the USA, Switzerland, France, Slovenia, and Spain.
Completing the construction of the new ammunition hall in Skarżysko-Kamienna and completing the acceptance of the remaining facilities – including the missile hall and infrastructure in Pionki – represents an important milestone in building Poland's modern industrial potential. Completion of construction work on all production facilities under "Project 400" is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026. Once fully operational, MESKO S.A. will achieve its target production capacity for small-, medium-, and large-caliber ammunition, as well as missiles, multi-base propellant and combustible cartridge case.
- The commissioning of the new small-caliber ammunition production hall allows us to significantly increase production capacity and guarantee our customers the highest quality standards and on-time deliveries. This makes MESKO S.A. an even more reliable partner for the Polish Armed Forces and our foreign partners. The majority of domestic production – from components to the finished cartridge – allows the company to gradually become less dependent on external and foreign suppliers and to build supply chain resilience, which is crucial in today's world. We are proud that MESKO's development directly translates into strengthening Poland's security. This success would not have been possible without the hard work and expertise of our employees – says Marcin Ożóg, Member of the Board of MESKO S.A.
